CAPOEIRA
is a martial art dance that was developed over 400 years ago by the African Slaves in Brazil. This art has elements of aspects of dance, acrobatics, music, art and self-defense.

MACULELE
is a folkloric dance performed with machetes & music to emulate the harvesting of sugar cane by Africans slaves at the Sugar Cane Plantations.

SAMBA
(carnaval style) is the most famous dance in Brazil especially during Carnaval!

COCO DE RODA
(Cocoo-dee-hoda) is a typical dance from the beach regions of the Northeast of Brazil and has a strong African drumming influence. The choreography of the dance involves steps and movements traditional of the indigenous Tupis peoples of Brazil.

MARACATU
comes from the coronation festivities created by the Portuguese for the Congolese people in Brazil. During these ceremonies the 'Congo king' was elected - only people of Congolese descent were allowed to vote. This 'Congo king' had no real power, it was only a symbolic position. The first documented ceremony occurred in 1711 in Olinda. Traditionally, the dance is followed by percussion instruments only. In the music you find strong mystic and religious elements.

AFRO
- Afro-Brazilian dance was first created by the slaves of Brazil's colonial era. The mixture of the steps, and of the rhythms brought by these slaves, with Indigenous and Europeans influences were essential to the vitality of Brazilian dance. In order to accommodate a rhythmical richness, Afro-Brazilian dance has as its main characteristics the rapid marking of the rhythm by the feet, and free and independent movements of arms, cheast, head and hips.
